Dear America,

I wanted to let you know how things are going at HUD. Things are bad. It is awful. It is worse than you could even imagine. The leadership in HUD is trying to rob you of your rights. Rights that matter, that support mental health, that support same-sex couples, that support victims of domestic violence and discrimination. Our leadership is trying to make it very clear that they do not care about your rights.

Fortunately, state laws and court precedent should preserve those rights for you.

But in the meantime, the federal government is breaking your ability to fight back if someone denies you housing because of your race, color, religion, sex, disability, national origin or because you have kids. 

If you are a victim of discrimination, the government is required to look into your case. These protections are so important, that Congress requires we investigate and prosecute these cases on behalf of the victims. This administration said fuck that. They refuse to defend your rights, because they don't care about them and they don't care about you.

But I'm telling you right now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you have fewer rights today than you did last year. And this pattern will continue into 2027. Government employees like me are trying, honestly trying to preserve those rights for you. But when we speak up to tell our leaders that an action is illegal or inefficient (and giving this advice is in our job description) we are removed from the project... or removed from our jobs. It is truly terrible to work for a place that hates you, but I'm committed to this fight. Because once upon a time, some very brave Americans bled and died to get you these rights. We cannot let these cruel dumb ones take them away.
